Talroo Expands Offering to Reach Hispanic Workers

U.S. Spanish-speaking population is second only to Mexico’s, and more than 75% of Hispanic workers report using job search sites, Talroo said. With the growing Hispanic community and the rising number of bilingual employees being recruited and hired, this new translation feature aligns with employers evolving priorities. Figures show the number of Hispanic workers in the labor force stood at approximately 29 million in 2020. Projections indicate that figure will reach 35.9 million in 2030. As a result, Hispanic people will account for 78% of net new workers between 2020 and 2030, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The majority of those people will be of prime age for work – 25 to 54 years old with a median age of 38.5. And, From 2018 to 2028, the Hispanic share of the labor force is projected to increase more than that of any other race or ethnic group, from 17.5% in 2018 to 20.9% in 2028, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. From 2018 to 2028, the share for Hispanic men is projected to increase from 9.9% to 11.7%, while the share for Hispanic women is projected to increase from 7.5% to 9.2%.
There Goes Twitter’s Ethical AI Team as Employees Post Final Messages
Twitter began its highly anticipated mass layoffs Thursday evening by eliminating its top internal critics. Twitter’s Ethical AI team, according to former staff, is no more. Multiple members of Twitter’s Machine Learning, Ethics, Transparency and Accountability (META) team, including its former leader, posted on Twitter saying they were no longer at the company. At least one of the former workers suggested the entire team was being disbanded. The apparent layoffs impacting the company’s strongest internal watchdog group comes as thousands more brace for cuts potentially impacting around half of the company’s staff according to previous reports. Gizmodo found tweets from around half a dozen META team members claiming they were impacted by the layoffs. META head Rumman Chowdhury posted a screenshot of apparently being locked out of her Twitter email account alongside a tweet reading, “Has it already started? Happy layoff eve!” Chowdhury, who spearheaded a number of transparency initiatives at the company including launching a first of its kind algorithmic bias bounty challenge, went on to say, “it’s definitely only downhill on this hellsite.”
Hourly Jobs Losing Talent to Gig Economy
Based on feedback from more than 1,500 hourly employees and 500 managers, a new report from Legion technologies uncovered that the seasonal workforce values gig-like flexibility above all else, and not offering flexible, modern employment could be detrimental to businesses this holiday season. Gig work is slowly eating away at traditional hourly jobs. For many, it is just easier to get on Uber or Doordash to make some extra cash. According to the National Retail Federation, the retail industry alone hires approximately 500,000 temporary workers for the holiday season. The widespread need to fill positions has created a shift in power between hourly employees and their employers. With so many open positions, seasonal workers can be more selective in choosing their employment opportunities. Hourly employees are seeking positions that allow them to manage their own schedules, prioritize family events and avoid burnout. That’s why gig work is so attractive. Retailers, restaurants, and hospitality businesses must evolve to attract and retain employees while simultaneously improving the lives of their managers.
